I have started a new section on this site that is devoted to tailgating. As it is with many of you, tailgating is an integral part of the game day experience and, with the team's mediocre home record of late, often the best part of the day. I wanted to keep the main part of the site dedicated to straight on-field talk, so if you look up top of the blog here you'll see the tab for the Tailgate section.
I was going to wait until the area was better populated before I discussed it here. But I came across some information that I thought I'd pass along. Last Sunday the new parking and tailgating policies were a cluster, uh, bomb and a lot of people ended up getting into the parking lots late. This particularly seemed to be an issue for those who enter the stadium from the Beltway side of the area.
One Extremeskins member wrote a letter to the Redskins complaining about the experience. He posted the team's response on the board and I am copying it over to here. It explains some new procedures that they are going to use this week. More importantly, at the bottom, there is contact information for the VP of Operations at FedEx Field. He is the one to contact if you have issues and/or suggestions.
I will post this letter and the contact info into the Tailgate section but I'm bringing it up here so that everyone who needs it can get it.

Thank you for sharing your comments regarding parking last Sunday at FedExField. We truly apologize for the delays you encountered. We made a number of changes this year, including additional exit lanes after the game on Garrett Morgan Boulevard and a new exit to Sheriff Road from Green Lot B, to improve gameday traffic, and we have now made further adjustments to the parking plan to address the situation you experienced. We are working hard to improve your gameday experience, and we appreciate it when fans like you take the time to share your criticisms and comments.
To address the delays you encountered entering the stadium parking lots from Arena Drive, we have directed our parking staff to open all lots adjacent to Arena Drive four hours in advance of the game. You will be directed to enter and park in the lot color specific to your parking pass, and then you will be directed to park in a specific parking space (or, if you are tailgating, you will be directed to the back of the lot). Once the Green and Orange lots adjacent to Arena Drive are full, we will direct vehicles to the next available Green and Orange lots off of Garrett Morgan Boulevard. We advise all fans to arrive as early as possible to allow access to their preferred parking lot. If you have a Green or Orange Lot pass and are arriving within 90 minutes of kick-off, we recommend that you enter the Stadium grounds on Garrett Morgan Boulevard, which would bring you in closer to the Green Lots that will have spaces available at that point.
If you are planning to tailgate, please review the following tailgate policies;
- Use of of an empty parking space for tailgating is permitted only in designated areas and until such time as the space is needed to park other vehicles.
- For the safety of all fans, please follow the direction of parking personnel and public safety officers.
