This morning on CSNwashington.com, I took a look at the depth chart after the end of the first week of free agency. I did this knowing full well that the article would have a limited shelf life. After today's resigning of Jammal Brown and the trade of Vonnie Holliday for Tim Hightower let's reset the three affected areas.
Running back
Starter: Ryan Torain
Backup: Roy Helu
I'll leave Helu as the backup since I think that Hightower is a role player. He looks like a good third-down back in both passing situations, with his solid blitz pickups and pass-catching ability, and in running situations with his good power running ability (23 rushing TD's in three NFL seasons). He'll get about a dozen touches a game.
Offensive line
Starters (left to right): Trent Williams, Kory Lichtensteiger, Will Montgomery, Chris Chester, Jammal Brown
Backups: Selvish Capers, Maurice Hurt, Eric Cook, Artis Hicks, Clint Oldenburg
Keeping Brown was big in order to maintain continuity on the line. Yes, that may sound crazy, keeping a line that was one of the worst in the league in 2010 together. But the move of Will Montgomery to center replacing the ineffective Casey Rabach will help. The zone scheme requires a degree of timing and coordination that the line, with four new starters from 2009, never could achieve.
Defensive line
Starters: Stephen Bowen and Adam Carriker at ends, Barry Cofield at nose tackle.
Backups: Jarvis Jenkins and Joe Joseph at ends, Anthony Bryant at nose tackle
Unless they have faith that either Joseph or Darrion Scott as a reserve, there could be another free agent move here for some experienced, dependable depth.

In your earlier post, you have the Redskins keeping nine OL, yet in this article you show ten. I do believe it will be nine and Artis Hicks is on the bubble due to his admittedly poor play. I'm inclined to think they'll have six WR on the roster, not five. Depth: Moss, Gaffney, Kelly, Hank, Stallworth (?), and Paul. They can do this by carrying only six DL as you have posted in this article, yet show seven in the depth chart article. Paul should make the team and replace Banks who is not as large as Paul for Special Teams duties such as tackling and fending odd blockers when in defensive posture.

C.Rabach was a great redskin for years but if anyone didn't see him getting beat like a drum last season...I say, what team were you watching?

______
I feel your sentiment in this comment in regards to loyalty, but your only a half right with that statement: he was a rock -- in the sense he didnt move much. He was gettin beat a lot last year esp down the stretch, only thing he did well was his line calls. He was great in years prior and did us a great service but the skins don't owe him anything beyond his contract. He even said he wouldn't want any hand outs like a scholarship year due to his years of service. He will catch on somewhere else, just like I think Philip Daniels will. They will be better off in a more stable situation, and hopefully goto a team in contention as we will not be.

Casey Rabach could not handle the other teams DT. The pressure up the middle messes up everything. I'm glad someone else is getting the start but he could be a back-up since he knows the scheme
