Thanks to all of you for the kind words of sympathy after my father’s passing last week. I may not have a chance to acknowledge all of you individually and I want everyone to know that the kind words mean a lot to me.
Quick story: At the visitation on Thursday, I turned around and saw a man I had not seen in years. It was Alan, who sat next to me and my dad at RFK Stadium from 1966 until the team moved to FedEx. Alan went to only a few games a year at FedEx but Dad and I (until I started sitting in th press box 10 years ago) always had a great time when he was there.
Alan never saw or spoke to Ty Tandler outside of a stadium. But for seven or eight Sundays a year for 45 years, they were the best of friends. The bond was strong enough that Alan came out to the funeral home to pay his respects. It is one of those relationships that a team like the Redskins can build.
I’ll be back out at Redskins Park on Monday, getting back to work. If I didn’t answer a question you sent me on Twitter or email or in the comments here, please re-send it and I’ll get to it.

Hello Rich,
Sorry for the loss of your father. We as fans are glad you came back. My question is, did you get a chance to see the first preseason game? If so, what was your impression on the team and the play of Rex Grossman? Should fans not get to carried away of the first preseason game?

Fans should never get carried away by any preseason game. Just be glad that the Redskins got out without any major injuries and that they looked OK. Rex looked sharp and confident but he is a streaky QB. He could throw three picks in the next five series he plays.

Did I scare anyone off? I hope not, because it’s not as complicated as it sounds! There are no deadlines and no expected finish dates. The tutorials are going to be posted more quickly than most people are likely to finish each step, but I really think it will be helpful for those of you who may not have designed your own pattern before to be able to read ahead and know what to anticipate. In fact, if you’re on the fence, don’t hesitate to wait until all of the tutorials have been posted before jumping in.
