According to various reports, the Redskins have signed offensive lineman Sean Locklear. The North Carolina State product has spent his entire seven-year career with the Seahawks.
Locklear has played both guard and tackle. Some scouting reports suggest that he is an excellent pass protector but that his run blocking leaves something to be desired.
His role remains to be seen. Locklear, 30, has been a starter in Seattle since 2005 so it seems unlikely that he would come in strictly as a reserve.

He played tackle in Seattle. Right? Do you think he's moving to guard?

Good Move

I like the idea of bringing Locklear in, but I thought we would be doing so merely as a depth right tackle in a way similar--but as a significant upgrade--to how we used Stephon Heyer last season (which would be fine for us if he's willing to accept a backup role). However, this may be even better news if we're able to move him to guard (and he can play the position) on either the left or right side, put Chester at the other guard spot, and make Lichtensteiger the primary backup at guard/center. If Locklear can handle a guard spot, it gives us more size, more talent and more previous starting experience along the offensive line. Either way--as a guard or as a right tackle--he's a very good strategic pickup who buys us another year to develop existing young O-linemen or draft new talent there.
