There seems to be some confusion over the number of players on the Redskins roster. Let’s take a look and see if we can straighten this out.
After signing Sean Locklear on Friday and releasing Robert Henson on Saturday, the Redskins have 90 players under contract. The roster limit is 90 but they still could sign two more players without releasing anyone.
LaRon Landry and Kareem Moore on the PUP (physically unable to perform) list. Neither can practice with the team but they do not count against the 90-player limit. So, as far as they 90-man limit goes, they have 88 players practicing.
The Redskins can sign two more players without cutting anyone.
Last year, when the roster limit was 80, Mike Shanahan ran a lot of camp with 78 or 79 players. He said that he did not want to bring in players just for the sake of getting up to the number and he wanted to have room to add a player at a specific position in case of injury. So don’t necessarily look for the Skins to add anyone immediately.
