On Wednesday afternoon our media conference call with the upcoming opponent’s head coach and Tom Coughlin of the Giants demonstrated a good grasp of the language known as coachspeak.
--Evidently he and Mike Shanahan attended the same school of coachspeak. Coughling prefaced one statement with, “for obvious reasons,” one of Shanahan’s favorite phrases.
--When asked how the Giants have been able to win nine of 10 against the Redskins, Coughtlin said it was because “we won a lot of close games.” Here are the scores of the Giants’ wins in the series since 2005:
36-0
19-3
34-28
24-17
16-7
23-7
23-17
45-12
31-7
17-14
Of course, Coughlin is not going to say anything like “We just match up well against them and whip the hell out of them physically every time we play them.”
For obvious reasons.
