We wanted to get Redskins fans some inside intelligence on the Arizona Cardinals so we went to a prime source for it. Scott Allen covers the Cards for Raising Zona, one of the top Cardinals blogs out there. He was good enough to take a few minutes to answer some questions about the team traveling to FedEx Field to play the Redskins on Sunday.
Rich Tandler: Let's get this out of the way from the start--Cam Newton with 422 yards? What happened?
Scott Allen: Who knows? What happened to NFL defenses in general? Four 400+yard passers in one week for the first time ever, including Newton. I think the Cards defensive secondary is new. Their top vet is out for the season, they traded another to Philly, and another guy is a rookie, albeit a highly touted rookie in Patrick Peterson. I would not be surprised to see Rex Grossman go off on them either.
RT: We know that the Redskins will have to put their best corner, another defensive back, a linebacker, and a quality control coach on Larry Fitzgerald (pictured). If the Redskins do manage to contain Fitzgerald, what other receiver could have a big day on Sunday?
SA: Early Doucet. It happened last Sunday against the Panthers. Fitz was double-teamed and it left Doucet open, including a 70- yard TD catch. Fitz will still get some catches, but Kevin Kolb will need to find other guys.
RT: We've seen Tim Hightower for a preseason plus a game. You have watching him for three years. What can you tell us about him both on and off the field?
SA: Just watch for the fumbles. He's a hard runner and can run over people. His biggest issue has always been hanging on to the football, especially in crucial situations. He's been a drive killer every now and then over the past couple of seasons. I think though he will be great for the Skins.
RT: Give me a player on each side of the ball who most Redskins fans don't know who might make a big play on Sunday.
SA: On defense - defensive end David Carter. On offense - receiver Andre Roberts.
RT: Who's going to win and why?
SA: Skins 31-27. I think the Cards make scoreboard, but their secondary leaves a lot to be desired. Go get Skins receivers on your fantasy team now if you haven't already.
