One of the issues discussed here last week was how the Redskins were going to handle the Cardinals’ blitzing defense. After giving up four sacks against the Giants, it was thought that the Redskins and Rex Grossman would be under fire against Arizona.
That turned out not to be the case. Grossman was sacked just once and while he was hit and hurried a few more time, he had time to throw for the most part. Even his first interception came on a play where he had all day to throw. In fact, he probably had too much time to over think the situation as he threw it straight to safety Adrian Wilson.
The Redskins got a little more pressure on Kevin Kolb. They sacked him three times including a monster hit by Brian Orakpo that set the ball flying up into the air (pictured). Even though the Cardinals recovered the fumble it was a highlight play for Orakpo.
One thing that both sides suffered from was getting ball batted away at the line. Grossman may have saved a couple of interceptions by swatting away balls that were being juggled around after being tipped at the line. On the play after his sack, Orakpo rejected a Kolb pass, swatting it into the backfield. I haven’t counted yet but there were at least two or three balls tipped at the line by each team.
