1st Down
By helping beat the Giants last week, Rex Grossman became the fifth consecutive Redskins quarterback to win his initial Week 1 start with the team. The list:
2011: Grossman – 21 of 34, 305 yards, 2 TDs, no INTs.
2010: Donovan McNabb (Dallas) – 15 of 32, 171 yards, no TDs, no INTs.
2007: Jason Campbell (Miami) – 12 of 21, 222 yards, no TDs, 2 INTs
2004: Mark Brunell (Tampa Bay) – 13 of 24, 125 yards, no TDs, no INTs.
2003: Patrick Ramsey (NY Jets) – 17 of 23, 185 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT.
2nd Down
Redskins running back Tim Hightower’s (pictured) opening effort of 25 carries for 72 yards and a touchdown wasn’t earth-shattering, but it was comparable to Clinton Portis’ final five Week 1 efforts:
2010 (Dallas): 18 carries-63 yards.
2009 (at Giants): 16-62.
2008 (at Giants): 23-84.
2007 (Miami): 17-98 (1 TD).
2006 (Minnesota): 10-34 (1 TD, limited because of preseason shoulder injury).
3rd Down
Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald’s previous three games against the Redskins:
2005 (Redskins win): Four catches for 27 yards.
2007 (Redskins win): Six catches for 97 yards.
2008 (Redskins win): Seven catches for 109 yards and a 62-yard touchdown.
Among the top 10 draft picks in 2004, only Fitzgerald (No. 4) still plays with the team that selected him. Eli Manning and Philip Rivers were technically drafted by San Diego and the Giants, respectively, before being traded. The Redskins’ drafted the late Sean Taylor fifth overall.
4th Down
This is the sixth time since 1993 the Redskins have started the season with two straight home games. The previous results:
2010: Beat Dallas 13-10, lost to Houston 30-27.
2002: Beat Arizona 31-23, lost to Philadelphia 37-7.
1996: Lost to Philadelphia 17-14, beat Chicago 10-3.
1995: Beat Arizona 27-7, lost to Oakland 20-8.
1993: Beat Dallas 35-16, lost to Arizona 17-10.

Wow, not the best track record for having two home games to start the season.... hopefully we pull this one off..
