LaRon Landry talked to the media on Wednesday and it seemed doubtful that he will play on Sunday when the New York Giants come to town.
“As of now, it looks like I’ll miss it,” Landry said when asked if his hamstring would allow him to take the field on Sunday.
If Landry can’t go, the spotlight will be squarely on rookie safety Dejon Gomes (pictured). Reed Doughty, who has played in 60 NFL games, will take Landry’s spot alongside free safety Oshiomogho Atogwe. But Gomes will be active and is likely to be called upon in certain defensive packages as well as on special teams.
Gomes got off to a slow start in training camp but he came on strong once the preseason games started. He made enough big plays to push out veteran safety Chris Horton and secure a spot as one of four safeties on the roster.
Now, it looks like he will be one of three.
