Today Mike Shanahan confirmed what everyone already knew and declared that LaRon Landry will not play on Sunday when the Redskins take on the New York Giants.
Shanahan said that Landry would be out when he did his daily press conference and the injury report reflected that.
The other Redskins players who have been nursing various injuries and have been limited in practice all week, Oshiomogho Atogwe, Brandon Banks, Chris Cooley, Donte Stallworth, and Ryan Torain, are all listed as questionable. According to the NFL guidelines that means that there is a 50 percent chance that they will play.
There doesn’t seem to be too much concern about Atogwe’s status. He has been limited in practice out of an abundance of caution. Banks also seems to be on track to play; the knee could well be an issue all year but as he demonstrated when he returned a punt 95 yards for a touchdown against the Bucs he can function with the injury.
Stallworth is the fifth or sixth wide receiver and Torain in this third running back so both might be inactive regardless of injury status.
Cooley is the big question mark. This morning, he told the Junkies on 106.7 The Fan that his fantasy owners should start him on Sunday, meaning that he expects to start and contribute. He did, however, say that any official word could come only from Shanahan.
The Giants had an addition to the injury report. Tight end Travis Beckum, who was to be used in a rotation of players as they try to replace Kevin Boss, is questionable with a hamstring injury. According to Patricia Traina of Inside Football, Beckum had issues with both hamstrings last week. He practiced earlier in the week but they tightened up on him today and he was included on the injury report.
Pro Bowl defensive end Justin Tuck did practice on a limited basis and he is listed as questionable. Tom Coughlin said that Tuck was held out of yesterday’s practice because it was a full-pads session and he did not want to risk aggravating his neck injury. The problem is described as a singer that is taking longer to heal than usual.
Traina speculated that this might be a good week to hold Tuck out to give him a chance to heal. She said that something more about his situation might be found out tomorrow after they work him out to test the injury.
