According to a tweet by ESPN 980 Redskins reporter Chris Russell, the Redskins have informed rookie offensive tackle Willie Smith that he will make the 53-man roster. If this is accruate, the East Carolina product has defied some pretty long odds in making an NFL team after being unable to get any offseason work with the team due to the lockout.
It was reported earlier that the Redskins have released guard Maurice Hurt, a seventh-round pick this year. In seems right now that the backups on the offensive line are Smith, tackle Sean Locklear, center Erick Cook, and Artis Hicks, who can play guard and tackle.
The configuration leaves the Redskins O-line depth heavy on the outside as Smith and Locklear are stricly tackles.A trade or waiver claim could alter the picture, so we'll see.
