The Redskins have put rookie cornerback Brandyn Thompson on waivers in order to make room for cornerback Phillip Buchanon.
The move was first reported by 106.7 The Fan and was later confirmed by Thompson to John Keim of the Washington Examiner.
Thompson was picked by the Redskins in the seventh round of the draft last April. He was the last reserve cornerback behind Kevin Barnes and Byron Westbrook. The addition of Buchanon would have pushed him further down the depth chart.
Keim reports that Thompson told him that the team planned to add him to the practice squad if he cleared waivers.

So that was who the team was going to cut to make room for Buchanon. Too bad for the rookie but maybe he sticks around on the practice squad. Buchanon is going to provide some quality depth at corner and with the rate at which our corners have been getting dinged up in games, we need him.
