--We’ve seen Roy Helu’s TD run over and over since it happened yesterday. You don’t have to look too closely at it to see that Donte Stallworth made a key block that helped spring the run. It wasn’t anything spectacular but he blocked a defensive back well enough to help clear the path for Helu. Stallworth is a good, solid pro and although it is unlikely that he will be back next year he can help his teammates play better while he is here.
-- Sunday against the Seahawks, Rex Grossman passed for 314 yards while rookie back Roy Helu ran for 108. It was the first time since 2008 that the Redskins have had a 300-yard passing performance and a 100-yard rusher in the same game. That year in Detroit, Clinton Portis rushed for 129 yards on 21 carries and scored two touchdowns while Jason Campbell completed 23 of 28 passes for 328 yards and a touchdown.
--Grossman targeted 10 different receivers against Seattle. Helu and wide receivers Jabar Gaffney and Santana Moss were his favorites, each getting targeted seven times. In all, wide receivers were targeted 18 times, running backs 10, and tight ends six. Anthony Armstrong was the target of only one pass and we know what happened on that one.
--Perry Riley hasn’t been as noticeable the past two weeks as he was in his starting debut against the Dolphins when he had four tackles for losses but he has been playing very well. He had 14 tackles against Seattle yesterday and he was around the ball all afternoon. The second-year player should only get better if he continues to skip lunch breaks in favor of taking in film study with London Fletcher. It’s probably too early to say that Fletcher is grooming his eventual replacement but it’s a possibility.
--Ann odd numerical confluence: Grossman’s 50-yard touchdown pass to Armstrong was the 50th touchdown pass of Rex’s career and the 50th reception of Armstrong’s career.
--I don’t work in TV but I know enough about to know that the guys in the booth have stories that they keep in their back pockets to pull out at some point during the game. And you could just tell that Fox announcer Jim Mora was dying to use the one about the size of Grossman’s hands. He pulled it out the one and only time that Grossman fumbled even though it was clear that Mike Sellers knocked the ball out of the QB’s hand and that his hand size had nothing to do with it.
