Here is what we will be talking about around Redskins Park on Wednesday:
--When Tim Hightower was lost for the season due to a torn ACL it was wide assumed that rookie Evan Royster would be elevated from the practice squad to take his place. That did not happen, at least not until yesterday. They went with two tailbacks on the roster for a couple of weeks and then the claimed Tashard Choice off of waivers from the Cowboys. After Choice gained six yards on seven carries against Dallas in his only game action, the decision was made to give Royster, a sixth-round pick of the team last April, a shot. We’ll ask Mike Shanahan about the thinking behind that move and see if we can talk to Royster about how he got the news and how he’s feeling about it.
--Rex Grossman is first up to the podium. Despite the loss to the Cowboys, his grip on the starting quarterback job seems to be firmer than it was before the game. The passing game seemed to click for the first time in a while after a slow start. We’ll find out what he saw on film from Sunday and what he’s thinking about his status going forward.
--The addition of Royster to the active roster means that 10 of the Redskins’ 12 draft picks have been on the active roster at some point during the season. Only second-round defensive end Jarvis Jenkins, who went on injured reserve before the season started, and sixth-round receiver Aldrick Robinson, who has been on the practice squad all year, have not spend time on the 53-man roster. In addition, rookie free agent offensive tackle Willie Smith has been on the roster all year. In short, it looks like the Redskins have a youth movement in full swing. The new-look Redskins will not only be a talking point for today, but for the rest of the season.
