Mike Shanahan said today that while rookie Willie Smith played well at left tackle against the Patriots, he has not earned the start this Sunday against the New York Giants.
Like they did last week, the Redskins will have both Smith and veteran Sean Locklear work with the first team and they will decide which player will start the game based on who performs better.
Against New England, Locklear started and Smith came in for the second offensive series. Locker played one more series and then Smith went the rest of the way.
Given that they are formally eliminated from playoff contention, should the Redskins just put in the younger Smith the rest of the year? Or should give Locklear a shot?
