The Redskins are known as a team that pays its player well, perhaps lavishly. But they have trimmed back on their former free-spending ways. As of now, they have 13 players on their roster whose 2012 contracts call for salaries of $1 million or more.
Trent Williams, thanks to being the a member of the last draft class that was not subject to the new rookie contract limits, will be the highest-paid Redskin by far with a salary of $11 million. DeAngelo Hall’s contract, which he signed as a free agent in 2009, calls for him to make a salary of $6 million.
At the “low end” of the scale, if you can call it that, are fullback Mike Sellers at $1.045 million and quarterback John Beck at an even $1 million.
By comparison, the Dallas Cowboys have 15 players (listed at bottom) with salaries of $1 million or more and, according to this article, the Steelers have 12 players making at least $2.1 million in salary on the defensive side of the ball alone.
There almost certainly will be players added to the list when free agency opens on March 13 and it is likely that some below will not be around to collect their checks by the time they start being issued next September.
Here is the Redskins million-dollar club:
