The Redskins’ Ryan Kerrigan and Roy Helu were named to the Pro Football Weekly/Pro Football Writers of America All-Rookie team announced today.
Kerrigan was the Redskins’ first-round pick in the 2011 draft (16th overall). He started off the year with a bang with a pass interception he returned for touchdown to spark the Redskins’ win over the Giants. The Purdue product finished the year with 7.5 sacks and 41 tackles. He played every one of the team’s defensive snaps.
Helu was taken out of Nebraska with a fourth-round pick (105th overall). He led the team in rushing with 640 yards, a total he attained despite starting just five games. Showing he was a dual threat out of the backfield, Helu set a team record with 14 receptions in the team’s game against the 49ers.
The PFWA also announced its 2011 All-NFL team; no Redskins were on that team. Both the All-NFL and All-Rookie teams were selected by the PFWA’s members.
