In an interview with Trey Wingo on ESPN, the Colts quarterback said that his recovery from neck surgery was coming along just fine.
“I'm very encouraged by what my doctors have said,” said Manning. “Everything's right on point, I'll be cleared and ready to play.”
This morning, a report on Yahoo.com said that sources were saying that Manning’s career is over. Jason Cole wrote that “people close to him” said that the nerves in his neck are not healing as quickly as hoped.
Manning had quite a different message. "Doctors & I have been in good, constant communication,” he said. “And I'm very encouraged by what they've said.”
Manning said that he probably will sit down and talk to Colts owner Jim Irsay about his future with the team. His contract calls for him to get an option bonus of $28 million on March 8. Unless both Manning and the team agree to alter the payment date, the only way the Colts can avoid paying the bonus is to releast him.
The Colts are expected to take Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck with the first pick of the draft in April and let him try to fill Manning's shoes.
