Former Redskins quarterback Colt Brennan is back in football
The Redskins’ sixth-round draft pick in 2008 has signed a contract with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League.
Brennan became a fan favorite as a rookie with some stirring performances late in some preseason games. He served as the third-string quarterback all of that season. The follow year he wound up on injured reserve with hamstring and hip injuries.
Mike Shanahan replaced Jim Zorn as the Redskins’ coach in 2010 and traded for backup quarterback John Beck. Brennan was released soon after that.
The Raiders picked him up a week later but released him at the end of training camp. A 2011 deal with the Hartford Colonials of the UFL became meaningless after the league suspended operations.

Last season, during a game, I posted to the RR live feed conversation a question of why the Redskins don't look for players in the CFL. But the response from others was: "Hey, it's a different game, etc." I don't completely buy that because obviously there have been players who have made the transition in both directions. And now, add to the list, Colt. Okay, so the other argument against would be "well, they're not good enough to catch on in the NFL, so they go to Canada." But Kurt Warner was playing the airplane hangar league. So I guess my question remains... DO the NFL teams spend much time looking at CFL for players? Because I'm a little surprised that the CFL doesn't work almost like a farm system for football. Thoughts?
