While it’s Super Bowl Sunday, the Redskins’ offseason is in full gear. Adam Schefter tweeted the following on Sunday morning:
If Peyton Manning is released, Redskins are expected to pursue him. Redskins also prepared to pursue free agents Matt Flynn and Kyle Orton.
There has been talk of all three being of interest to the QB-hungry Redskins, who are expected to move on from last year’s duo of Rex Grossman and John Beck. Orton’s name came up recently in something NFL Network’s Michael Lombardi called “chatter” at the Senior Bowl last week.
Other reports have indicated that the Redskins also are interested in trading up in the draft to get Robert Griffin III.
It appears that the Redskins are still evaluating all of their options. NFL free agency starts on March 13 and the draft is scheduled to start on April 26.
Update: A bit later, Schefter was on ESPN and had something to say about what kind of contract Manning will be looking for. He said the following on Twitter moments later:
Peyton Manning is willing to create a contract that would contain no guaranteed money up front, would be incentive laden.
