The Redskins saved approximately $3.4 million when they released Mike Sellers and Oshiomogho Atogwe.
Sellers was due a salary of $1.045 million this year. Backing out for the prorated amount of $240,000 for his signing bonus, the move will save $805,000 against the cap.
Atogwe’s contract was more complex. He was due a $3.4 million in salary and another $600,000 in roster and workout bonuses. The $4 million cap charge will be saved but that will be offset by a $1.6 million charge for his prorated signing bonus.
That does a little bit to offset the total of $36 million against the cap that the Redskins will be penalized by the NFL, but at this point every little bit helps.
