A while ago we reported that not all of the scouting reports on Baylor QB Robert Griffin III were favorable. One prominent evaluator, however, is giving RGIII very high marks albeit based on limited examination.
Greg Cosell of NFL Films is one of the best, most thorough of those who spend their late winter and early spring days poring over films of draft prospects. He got around to Griffin and he started his Twitter scouting report with a summation of what he saw:
He then went into several tweets worth of detail:
More RGIII: Plays where he looked down gun barrel + delivered. A positive as he transitions. Threw from different arm angles. Also positive.
Initial sense is can become a patient pocket passer in pro system, like Newton. No one plays QB in NFL unconventionally.
Threw excellent deep ball. Good trajectory + touch. Did not see many intermediate throws. Not as comfortable. Needs work there.
Don't know how he was coached but some undisciplined play to his game. Playmaker mentality not always a positive.
Similarities to Vick. Fine line between playmaker + too many missed opportunities leaving pocket. Newton terrific as pocket QB.
Always wow element. Easy throwing ability + spectacular runs. Always remember no one is great NFL QB because of way they run.
The second one about Cosell’s confidence that Griffin can become a pocket passer mitigates the concerns raised by the last few entries.
Not a definitive scout report by any means but at least one respected opinion seems to be giving RGIII high marks.
