The NFL announced yesterday that the Giants will host the Cowboys to open the NFL season on Sept. 5. Does this mean that the Eagles will be coming to FedEx Field on Sept. 9?
It’s a possibility. The Redskins have opened the season against a division team in each of the last four seasons. If they are going to open in division it would have to be against Philadelphia.
If the Redskins and Eagles do meet it likely would be at FedEx Field. The Phillies are scheduled to play a 1:35 game at Citizens Banks Park. That is several hundred yards away from Lincoln Financial Field and the two facilities share parking lots. The baseball game would completely rule out a games at 1:00 and 4:00. It seems unlikely that a matchup between the 5-11 Redskins and 8-8 Eagles is what NBC would want for its Sunday night opener.
So that leaves an afternoon game in Landover. But there is one problem with this scenario. The Eagles have not opened the season with an NFC East game since 2004.
Reading tea leaves can be difficult, we just might have to wait until the schedule comes out next month to see what happens. But just remember, if the Redskins start out hosting the Eagles you heard it here first.

Would think that RG3 or Andrew Luck in their first professional game would be a draw for Sunday Night.

Maybe, but something tells me that the rest of the country isn't quite as fired up about that
