Comcast SportsNet has learned that Mike Sellers has been released by the Washington Redskins.
The 36-year-old fullback is a veteran of 12 NFL seasons, all but one of them with the Redskins. He was with Washington from 1998 through 2000 and again from 2004-2011.
Although he was primarily a blocking back and special teams stalwart did occasionally get a chance to carry the ball. For his career he had 50 rushing attempts for 158 yards and three touchdowns. And when the 6-3, 260-pound fullback got a reception in the open field, few defensive backs were anxious to tackle him. He had 123 career receptiosn for 1095 yards and 18 touchdowns.
The team also has released safety Oshiomogho Atogwe according to media reports. He was signed as a free agent last year and was due a salary of $3.4 million.
