Fletcher was an unrestricted free agent. Mike Shanahan, Bruce Allen, and others in team management have been saying for months that getting their 37-year-old team captain back in the fold was a priority. And Fletcher himself indicated on multiple occasions that he would like to stay in Washington.
Fletcher has not missed a game since he came into the league and he has started every game since the 2001 season. After being snubbed in voting for the Pro Bowl for years, Fletcher has made the NFL’s annual all-star game for the last three years.
