In case you missed it over the weekend, we talked about how Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys are already plotting ways to stop Robert Griffin III when he is quarterbacking the Redskins in 2012. Jones seems to believe that DeMarcus Ware and Brandon Carr can serve as kryptonite to RG3.
That remains to be seen. What we know already is that a lot of Cowboys fans are having difficulty with the idea that the pride of Baylor University is likely to be headed to Washington. Many of those Cowboys fans reside in Waco, Texas, the home of Baylor and a shade over 100 miles south of Cowboys Stadium via I-35.
When your neighborhood Heisman Trophy winning quarterback dons the jersey of your hated rivals there will be some mixed feelings around Waco.
"I will buy a RG3 jersey and I will cheer for the Redskins and hope that RG3 plays well anytime that they are not playing the Cowboys," Baylor senior Chris Salazar, who grew up a Cowboys fans, said. "And I will hope that he plays well when playing the Cowboys, just that the Cowboys will play better and win."
Certainly many Maryland fans rued the fact that Randy White, the Terps’ all-everything defensive lineman, went to the Cowboys with the second pick in the 1975 draft. But that didn’t lead to an army of former Redskins fans walking around town with No. 54 Cowboys jerseys.
White played in the trenches; there is something different about the hometown hero being the quarterback. If Griffin has a good day that usually will lead to a Redskins win. Can Cowboys fans truly root for RG3 to put up big numbers?
