You knew that once Donovan McNabb bashed the Redskins and Mike and Kyle Shanahan, comments from his “friend” Michael Wilbon were sure to follow.
So we got that in a radio appearance on Tony Kornheiser’s show plus another little fireball thrown in for good effect.
Before we hit on Wilbon’s comments, let’s look at his qualifications. It’s been several years since he worked in Washington. He has a half-hour general sports show where he has to know enough about a topic to be able to discuss it for 30 seconds. Other than that, he works as a talking head for ESPN’s NBA coverage.
Let’s skip over what he had to say about McNabb’s bitter rant against the Redskins and the Shanahans. That has pretty well been debunked by serious NFL analysts everywhere. McNabb is Wilbon’s friend, what Wilbon said was purely personal.
Let’s get to what he said about the Colts and Robert Griffin III. Here is the relevant part:
By the way, I will tell you this. It’s not like I’m following this closely, but I had the occasion over the weekend to talk to a couple of people who have intimate knowledge of what the Colts are thinking. And you and I have talked very briefly on the show about are they still considering RGIII? Tony, I’m told they are.
So, let’s see here. Basketball analyst Wilbon just so happened to stumble over information that full-time NFL beat reporters are working fervently to uncover. The first thought that came to mind is wondering what Jay Bilas had uncovered about the NFL.
But what did he really find out? He said he talked to “a couple of people who have intimate knowledge of what the Colts are thinking.” In other words, Wilbon did not talk to anybody who has an actual say in who the draft choice is. If he did, he would have said so.
Apparently Wilbon gets a kick out of dropping into D. C., throwing out a few shovels of B. S., and the heading back to AZ. Pay no attention to that man.

Nice Rich, get him!

Why has Wilbum become Skip Bayless with a dash of Jesse Jackson. This WILBUM has written wonderful pieces of anaylitcal thought and has since fallen from the great tree of North Western writing because of the all the wealth he has now. Mike Wilbum lots of us love basketball but its a shuttle run sprint of a sport, not a marathon like baseball, so when people like myself get upset with pointless games with no defense and critisize the NBA were not FREAKIN racist u F@#$*ng doosh!!!!
I would love to place Wilbum and Jan Brewer in a row boat with one oar and push them out to sea!

Plenty of people try the patience of Rich Tandler. (Myself included from time to time, no doubt). But Wilbon is one of the few to ever inspire so much of Rich's ire.

Thanks for your comments, guys. William, I like the Bayless/Jesse Jackson comparison, I will have to steal that one day in the future.
