Multiple media sources are reporting that the Redskins will be holding training camp in Richmond, Virginia starting in 2013.
The details are scant at this time. ESPN 950 has reported that the camp will be held within the Richmond city limits. That would seem to point to the University of Richmond, located in the city's West End.
The Spiders do have an FCS football team and it is difficult for a college team and an NFL team to share facilities as they prepare for their respective seasons. We will have to wait until the announcement is made. That is expected to be sometime in the next day or two.
NBC Channel 12 in Richmond is reporting that an announcement will come from the office of Governor Bob McDonnell this afternoon.
Update: The training camp move may be only part of a larger agreement between the Redskins and Virginia. WTOP radio is reporting that Governor McDonnell also will announce a $30 million expansion of Redskins Park in Loudoun County, Virginia. The Washington Post reported via Twitter that there may be some state money involved in the expansion.
