We’re only 17 days from the start of training camp at Redskins Park. For a lifetime Washingtonian such as myself, that’s both exciting and nerve-wracking.
It’s exciting because I’ve wanted to cover the ‘Skins since I started following the team – and specifically Darrell Green, my childhood hero – in the mid-80’s. It’s nerve-wracking because, with all apologies to White House correspondents, it’s the most important beat in town.
That said, I spent the previous 13 years at The Washington Post preparing for this opportunity, having covered everything from the high school careers of Evan Royster and Will Montgomery to Alex Ovechkin’s MVP seasons and Georgetown hoops. (I should also note that, even while covering these other beats, I did my best to follow the ‘Skins from afar. In fact, I recall watching them lose to the Seahawks in the 2008 playoffs at a bar on rue Sainte Catherine in downtown Montreal.)
So, Redskins fans, I’m thrilled that we’ve finally had a chance to meet. Let’s talk again soon right here, on www.csnwashington.com and Comcast SportsNet.
