Some quick hits to get your Friday morning going:
—Yesterday we hit on how good it was that RG3 has been signed after missing just two days of rookie camp because we didn’t have the owner out tweeting that a deal is “close”. Today, we are thankful that RG3 is in the fold because we don’t have to listen to the head coach talk about what critical work he is missing because the rookie isn’t there. Of course, I think many are thankful that Mike Shanahan is the head coach here and not Greg Schiano.
—I keep seeing fantasy “experts” saying that a Redskins running back is going to have a huge season; they just don’t know which one. The idea is that the threat of Robert Griffin III running will free up things for a running back to pile up some serious yardage. I think that the Redskins’ running game could be very effective but I’m not sure that any individual back will end up gaining 1200 yards or more. Tim Hightower, Roy Helu Jr. or Evan Royster are going to share the load and I think we’ll see those three backs gaining from 500-900 yards each instead of one fantasy stud piling up all of the yardage.
—Last year Panthers’ offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski pulled some plays from Auburn’s playbook to help Cam Newton feel comfortable running the Carolina offense. Will Mike and Kyle Shanahan take pages from Baylor’s playbook to do the same for RG3? We have an article coming later this morning discussing just that.
Days until: Training camp 6; preseason opener @ Bills 20; RG3 vs. Luck at FedEx Field 36; final cuts 43; Redskins @ Saints 51; home opener vs. Bengals 65
