Need to Know: Jenkins rounding into form

Here is what you need to know on this Monday, two weeks before the first roster cuts:

Final cuts a day earlier this year

There are 90 players on the Redskins roster right now. The tenure of 22 of them will end one day earlier than it normally does.

As usual, NFL teams will be required to cut to 75 players by 4 p.m. on the Monday teams have played their third preseason games. This year with preseason rosters expanded from 80 to 90 so teams must release 15 players instead of five. But the bottom line number of 75 stays the same. This year that will be on Aug. 27.

The date to reduce to 53 this year, however, is a day earlier than it has been in the past. With the usual Thursday night opener moved up to Wednesday due to Barak Obama’s speech at the Democratic convention, the date for the final cut has been moved up from Saturday to Friday. The cut to 53 this year will be on Aug. 31.

Jenkins getting better

There has been some concern about Jarvis Jenkins during training camp. A year after he tore his ACL, costing him his rookie season, he did not seem to be the force he has been during his first training camp.

But he seems to be on the way back. Jenkins is a large (6-4, 315) and powerful man. At Clemson, Jenkins could just use his power to dominate. That’s not enough in the NFL when you’re going up against a stud every single snap. A year ago he was starting to learn how to use proper technique to best utilize that power.

Jenkins is just starting to internalize all of that again. On occasion against the Bills he was driving back offensive linemen like he was before getting injured last year. He is not all the way back but he is getting there.

I’d look for him to contribute some early in the season and see his role and effectiveness increase as the season goes on.

Jenkins will be fine keep working him in the games.One thing that upsets me is,the next time this person write a post putting Barak Obama name in it.Please start out with President he deserve that much
