Here is what you need to know going into this Thursday, 98 days before the Redskins play the Cowboys on Thanksgiving Day.
Regular season mode
Now that training camp is over, the Redskins are shifting into regular season mode. They had their major practices in preparation for Saturday’s game on Tuesday and Wednesday, which would be the equivalent of the Wednesday and Thursday practices prior to a Sunday regular-season game.
There will be a light practice today that is open to the media, the last practice of the year we will be able to view in its entirety. As was the case on Wednesday, we can watch but not report on any details on what we see.
Then tomorrow is a travel day, same as Saturday before a Sunday regular season game. After the game in Chicago they’ll have a normal work week to get ready for their next game, the following Saturday against the Colts at FedEx Field.
After that it’s a quick turnaround for the final preseason game against the Bucs. Eleven days after that, they will be playing for keeps in the Superdome.
Today’s schedule
Practice: 11:45 a.m.
Open locker room and Mike Shanahan press conference: After practice, which should last about two hours.
Shanahan quick hits
Here is what Mike Shanahan had to say about the status of various players:
Trent Williams and Chris Chester—“They both had a good day. Trent and [offensive lineman] Maurice [Hurt], we kept out probably the last 15 minutes, Chester as well.”
Markus White—“He hurt his back a little bit, took a little shot there. He should be okay.”
Chris Baker—“Chris is coming back. He came in here 350-something [pounds] when he first came in. I asked him to lose some weight, and he’s done a good job, especially after the knee injury during the season last year.”
Roy Helu Jr.’s Achilles tendon issue—My gut is we will keep him out this game. Anytime you have a sore Achilles a couple days before the game, it makes more sense to get him ready for Indy or the last preseason game.
Dezmon Briscoe—“You can see he is a football player. He has made plays throughout training camp and practice, and he will get a chance to get some playing time.”
In case you missed it
Niles Paul is getting back to basics after dropping a few passes against the Bills last week.
Tim Hightower says his knee if “fine, ready”.
