Need to Know: RG3 will go 30-35 plays

Here is what you need to know on this Friday, two weeks before the final cut to 53.

Game chat starts tomorrow at 7

I will not be in Chicago on Saturday night but I just got a new 55-inch LED TV so I’ll have a good view of Comcast SportsNet’s exclusive HD telecast of the game. The chat will get going at about 7 p.m. Kickoff is at 8:00 and we’ll roll until the game is over.

RG3 and the rest of the offensive starters are slated to play 30 to 35 plays, about half of the game. The starting defense should play about the same number of snaps. 

Why Favorite

I had a few folks on Twitter yesterday ask why the Redskins signed defensive lineman Marlon Favorite. The guy can’t hold a job. He first signed in the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of LSU in 2009. That first contract was with the Panthers. In the two years and four months that followed he signed with the Rams, Chiefs, Seahawks, Saints, Bills, Colts, Patriots, Eagles, and the Rams again.

St. Louis released him on Sept. 3 of last year and his phone didn’t ring until the Redskins called this week to offer the 26-year-old his 11^th NFL contract with his 10^th different team. It’s hard to stay what stands out more, his inability to hold an NFL job or his ability to keep getting them.

I told the people on Twitter that the Redskins signed someone like Favorite because there are no Pro Bowl caliber players walking the streets in mid-August. The 32 NFL teams each have 90 players under contract so the top 2,880 pro football players in the world already have jobs.

Favorite is not going to make the Redskins. He will get some work with the third-team defense in practice and play late in the last two preseason games. The Redskins get a body to give the players who are going to make the team some rest. Favorite gets a chance to get some play on film that he hopes will help him land his 12^th NFL contract at some point down the road.

No availability today but we’re still working

There will be no media availability today at Redskins Park as the team will travel to Chicago. That won’t stop us as we’ll have posts on Josh Wilson, players to watch, Kirk Cousins and we’ll examine whether or not Rex Grossman will take up a roster spot.

Rich I have a lot of respect for your opinions and even have one of your books but I have to say that if the Redskins favor Niles Paul over Chris Cooley at TE it will be the dumbest mistake they've made since they let Art Monk go to give Desmond Howard a shot at receiver.
