Trent Williams’ ailing left foot continues to show signs of improvement, but Coach Mike Shanahan stopped short of saying the left tackle will suit up Saturday in Chicago.
Williams, who sustained a bone bruise Thursday against the Bills, practiced with the first team for the majority of team drills Wednesday in Ashburn.
The Redskins’ guards – Chris Chester and Maurice Hurt – also were held out of the final 15 minutes of practice as they recover from injuries. Chester has a sprained left ankle, while Hurt has an inflamed tendon behind his left knee.
“Overall, they got more reps than I thought they would today,” Shanahan said.
Both Williams and Chester insisted as they came off the field that they’ll be ready to play against the Bears, the Redskins’ second preseason game.
The ultimate decision, though, rests with Shanahan. And he’s not convinced yet.
“I really don’t know,” Shanahan said. “That’s really a gut [decision] right before the game. They’re going to have to improve by tomorrow. They got some got reps, but were no means close to 100-percent. I’m hoping the next 48 hours, we’ll know more.”
