There was quite a stir among Redskins fans when ESPN’s magazine came out and predicted that Washington would go 2-14 in 2012. That’s a two-win decline from last year and many believe that the team is at least somewhat improved since last year.
The magazine used a service called AccuScore, which uses computers to simulate the NFL season and project records. And, as it turns out, ESPN misinterpreted AccuScore’s data and all of its predictions were skewed to some extent.
An AccuScore representative explains the issue here. I sort of understand it but not well enough to try to explain it, just click on the page for details.
The bottom line is that AccuScore is projecting that the Redskins will do better than three wins. If you look at their NFL Season Futures page you see that their projected win total is 5.9.
Six wins may not be the type of season that Skins fans are dreaming of but it certainly seems to be closer to reality than one-third that many.
