Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan has been fined $25,000 for berating the replacement referees following his team’s 38-31 loss to the Bengals on Sunday. Chick Hernandez of CSNwashington.com has confirmed the fine.
Following some confusion on the part of the officials over whether or not a 10-second clock runoff should have occurred after a false start, Shanahan was called for unsportsmanlike conduct, costing the Redskins 15 yards (they accidentally marked off 20 yards).
Shanahan encountered the some of the officials in the tunnel outside of the Redskins locker room. He was seen on tape angrily yelling at the officials and, according to some witnesses, he used profanity when he did.
On Monday, Shanahan issued a statement saying, “I conducted myself in the wrong way.”
