Here is what you need to know on this Tuesday, September 11, five days before RG3 has to go out and do it again in St. Louis.
Kerrigan maintains iron man streak
One year and one game into his NFL career, Ryan Kerrigan still has not missed a play.
After playing all 1,056 defensive plays in 2011, Kerrigan was one of six defenders to play all 75 snaps against the Saints on Sunday. The others were Perry Riley, Josh Wilson, London Fletcher, DeAngelo Hall, and Madieu Williams. DeJon Gomes was out for only two plays and Brian Orakpo rested for six.
It is possibly insignificant but still interesting to note that when Orakpo was resting those six snaps, they went to Chris Wilson. Jackson was Orakpo’s backup last year while Wilson was out of football. But Wilson has drawn praise from Mike Shanahan for his efforts in returning to the game this year and he was rewarded with some playing time.
Redskins may miss Rams’ Saffold
We’ll take a closer look at the Rams later in the week but one of the storylines to follow is the health of St. Louis offensive tackle Rodger Saffold. He sustained a neck injury during the Rams’ game in Detroit and he stayed behind to have it examined. Many tests were negative, including a CT scan and X-rays, and he returned to St. Louis yesterday.
Coach Jeff Fisher said that Saffold had a “significant strain”
Saffold is the Rams’ starting left tackle and the Redskins are undoubtedly wishing him a speedy recovery and not just for the normal reasons. When the teams met in Week 4 last year, Saffold attempted to block Brian Orakpo. That didn’t work out so well as Orakpo had three sacks of quarterback Sam Bradford. In all, Saffold gave up four sacks during the game.
Fisher would not say if Saffold would play on Sunday. We do know that starting center Scott Wells will not play. He suffered a broken bone in his foot and will need surgery.
Today’s schedule

The Redskins signed defensive back Jordan Pugh to replace the injured Jordan Bernstine.
Nick Sundberg won the admiration of his coaches and teammates by continuing to snap after breaking his arm.
