This is what you need to know on this Sunday, September 16, one week before the Redskins open their home season against the Bengals.
Chat starts at 3:30; kickoff at 4:05
The game chat will get going at 3:30 with me from Ashburn and Tarik El-Bashir from the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis.
Kickoff will be at 4:05. Some late games will kick off at 4:25 but this is not a national doubleheader game, it’s just a regional telecast (although I suspect that some games might get moved into that slot if RG3 keeps impressing).
See you then.
Landry lashes out
It’s been a while since an ex-Redskin took some shots at the organization so we were overdue for someone like LaRon Landry to talk trash about the team.
Evidently feeling his oats after staying healthy for precisely one game, Landry took shots not only at Mike Shanahan and the entire coaching staff but at the professionalism of the team’s doctors and trainers.
“That’s why they have great doctors and they have okay doctors, great trainers and okay trainers,” Landry said. “(The Redskins) had people who just had the job title, but not the passion for their job. . . . I don’t respect the training staff at all. I don’t respect the coaches over there. I don’t respect (Shanahan). I do respect Coach (Joe) Gibbs, who brought me there, and Coach Gregg Williams. I respect that 2007 organization. After 2007. . . . nonexistent.”
We will see. If he is still healthy and productive in November, perhaps he was right in going with his program of healing his Achilles problems though rehab instead of with the surgery that the Redskins’ medical team recommended. If that happens, Landry will be set up to get a nice free agent payday next spring. If he winds up on injured reserve like he did the last two seasons, he will be trying to scratch out another one-year contract somewhere.
Somewhere, but clearly not in Washington.
