If the first month of his career is an indication, Robert Griffin III had better have a really big trophy case. The NFL has named the Redskins quarterback the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month for September.
In four games, Griffin has completed 86 of 124 passes for 1070 yards and four touchdowns. He is among the league leaders in completion percentage (69.4), yards per attempt (8.6), and passer rating (103.2). Griffin leads all NFL rookie quarterbacks in those three categories.
He is the third quarterback to pass for over 1000 yards in the first four games of his rookie season joining Cam Newton of the Panthers (2011) and Ryan Tannehill of the Dolphins (2012). The former Heisman Trophy winner also leads all quarterbacks in rushing with 234 yards.
Griffin was named the NFL Offensive Player of the Week following his performance in the Redskins season-opening win over the Saints and he was the NFL rookie of the week for that game as well. Griffin is in the voting for the rookie of the week for last week as well.
Griffin is the first Redskin to be named the Offensive Rookie of the Month since offensive tackle Chris Samuels won it for his performance in October of 2000. Last year, Ryan Kerrigan won the defensive rookie honors last year in September.
There seems to be little question that Griffin will continue to collect hardware.
