Here is what you need to know on this Monday, October 22, six days before the Redskins take on the Steelers in Pittsburgh.
Same old fourth-quarter story
In each of the Redskins’ seven games this year they have had the lead in the fourth quarter in six of them. In the other game, the one against the Bengals, they were tied in the fourth quarter.
But the Redskins have held on to only three of those fourth-quarter leads and they lost after being tied against Cincinnati. They haven’t blown any late leads as dramatically as the one they lost yesterday but they have lost them nonetheless.
One could say that having a lead to blow represents progress to some degree. After seven games a year ago the Redskins just had completed their third of five consecutive games where they never held the lead at any point during the game.
But obviously the Redskins want and need more than just improvement from being dead in the water.
Tuck mad at the football gods
We are hearing a lot of praise for the play of Robert Griffin III from the talking heads on TV and elsewhere but it is more impressive when an opposing player dishes out the accolades. Here is what Giants defensive end Just Tuck said about RG3:
I’m pretty mad at the football gods for putting him in the NFC East. To face that guy twice a year is going to be a headache…..A guy like him, I don’t think there is anybody in the league just like him. If I was going to run that offense and they asked me to pick between Vick, Cam Newton, the RGIII, I’m probably taking that guy.
Today’s schedule
