Game time forecast
The Weather Channel forecast for the 1 p.m. kickoff calls for mostly sunny skies, 49 degrees and winds from the NW at 7 m.p.h.
Since daylight saving time ended, it’s going to get dark quickly after the game is over. Sunset will be at 5:03.
One key: RG3 under pressure
The Panthers are good at putting pressure on the quarterback with their front four. Their starting four defensive linemen have 17 sacks, 11 QB hits and 46 hurries in their seven games, according to Pro Football Focus.
This is important because, like any quarterback, Robert Griffin III does not perform as well under pressure as he does when he has plenty of time to throw. But with Griffin it’s extra important to get to him with the front four.
RG3 has been under pressure on 60 of his 223 pass attempts and he has an NFL quarterback rating of 78.5. However, if you have to blitz him to get that pressure you are in trouble. Griffin has passed 57 times when defenses have sent extra rushers at him and his passer rating on those throws is 128.0.
If you can get to Griffin and keep seven back in pass coverage, you have a pretty good shot at slowing him down. If you try to get to him and leave only five or six back to cover he will make the quick decision and pick you apart.
So, if you want an early indication as to how the game is going to go, see if the Panthers get pressure with their front four. If they do, it could be a long day for the Redskins. If RG3 has time to throw against a four-man rush, the Redskins could roll.
