Here is what you need to know on this Friday, November 30, three days before the Redskins take on the Giants at FedEx Field.
Chat starts at 8:00 p.m. Monday
It’s a big game and we will have our chatting shoes on. It will be Tandler, Tarik and Jen X reporting live from the press box at FedEx Field on Monday night.
We will get things rolling at about 8 p.m. and roll on until it’s over. If you haven’t fired up your second screen (the chat interface works great on a tablet) during the game and joined us yet this year, come on by and check out our first prime time edition of the chat.
As always, we might get things going a little early so keep an eye on Twitter @Rich_TandlerCSN and we’ll let everyone know.
See you then!
Williams is growing up
Trent Williams wants to become great. Not good, great.
He told me yesterday that he is not proud of what he put on film as a rookie or, to a lesser extent, last year. Williams figured that he could get by on his natural athletic ability but that doesn’t cut it in the NFL. It takes offseasons in the weight room, lots of hours of film study, and continual work to improve technique.
Williams has a way to go, however, before the first thing that people hear of when they hear his name isn’t “drug suspension”. But it looks like he has developed the maturity to get it done. It’s been a process, but Mike Shanahan said yesterday that he is getting there.
He had the reputation coming up but he’s very talented. In fact, Coach [Bob] Stoops says he’s probably the best athlete he’s ever had at Oklahoma as an offensive or defensive lineman. He could play either one. The question was work ethic. When’s he going to get to the next level? I’ve seen that maturity since he’s been here, learning how to be a pro, learning how to be accountable, learning how to lead, different things that you’re hoping your guys are going to do. But you’re never positive he’s going to be able to do it or have the discipline to do it. I’ve been pleased with how he’s handled himself the last year. You can see the progress and you can see it in his play as well.
That last part, about seeing it in his play, is what really counts. If his work ethic stays at a high level we should be seeing him playing at a high level for years to come.
Today’s schedule
11:50—Practice (closed to the media after first 30 minutes)
After practice (approx.) 1:30—Mike Shanahan news conference, open locker room
In case you missed it
Victor Cruz says the Redskins aren’t “legitimate” playoff contenders.
RG3 wants to get it done for the veterans on the team.
