Here is what you need to know on this Friday, November 2, two days before the Redskins take on the Panthers at FedEx Field.
Hall will be fined, not suspended
There were reports yesterday that DeAngelo Hall will be fined but not suspended for his altercation with an official last Sunday.
Such an outcome seemed to be obvious after Hall was allowed to participate in practice on Wednesday and Thursday. However, there was some doubt due to the fact that the league office in New York was closed on Monday and Tuesday in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.
On Monday, Mike Shanahan did not rule out team discipline for Hall after learning what the league would do. It is unclear what measures the team could take as the collective bargaining agreement prevents a team from suspending a player for issues such as altercations with officials.
We should get word by this afternoon as to the amount of the fine and any disciplinary action that the team might take against Hall.
The better QB?
I noted yesterday that the group of quarterbacks the Redskins will face for the rest of the season is inferior to the signal callers they played against in the first half of the season in terms of passer rating.
What I did not note is that those second-half quarterback all have passer ratings that are inferior to that of the Redskins own quarterback.
Robert Griffin III currently has a quarterback rating of 97.3, seventh best in the NFL. The quarterback on the Redskins’ remaining schedule with the best rating is Eli Manning with an 89.1 rating, 12th best.
It would not be accurate to say that the Redskins will have the better quarterback on the field for every remaining game; clearly the resumes of the likes of Manning and Tony Romo would make such an assertion problematic.
Still, it has been quite some time since the Redskins have been able to take the field week in and week out with the higher rated quarterback. That gives them a chance to improve on the dismal 2-6 second-half record they have posted in each of the last four seasons.
