Here is what you need to know on this Sunday, December 23, the day the Redskins take on the Eagles in Philadelphia.
RG3 is cleared
To the surprise of absolutely nobody, the Redskins team doctors cleared Robert Griffin III to play on Sunday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that Twitter late Saturday.
Chat at 12:30 today
As soon as I hit the “post” button on this article, I’ll to be hitting the road to Philly to bring you coverage of the Eagles-Redskins game from Lincoln Financial Field. Tarik will be there as well and Jen X will be in the Bethesda studios.
We will be chatting it up starting at about 12:30 and rolling through the end of the game. It’s the sixth big, must-win game in a row so come on and talk about it.
See you then.
Who to root for
OK, here we go with today’s look at who you want to give the Redskins an early Christmas gift in the form of help towards making the playoffs.
Ravens over Giants—This is by far the biggest game of the day for the Redskins. If the Giants lose, the Redskins could lose to the Eagles and still win the NFC East in Week 17 by beating Dallas. Also, a Giants loss is part of a scenario under which the Redskins could clinch a wild card berth with a win over Philly.
Texans over Vikings—This would ensure that the Vikings can’t finish with a better record than the Redskins and Washington has the first tiebreaker over them. This is the second part of the Redskins’ clinch-today scenario.
Cardinals over Bears—This is the third part of the trifecta that would clinch a wild card spot for the Redskins if they beat the Eagles.
Saints over Cowboys—This game has no impact at all on the race for the NFC East; the Redskins will have to beat the Cowboys next week to take the division regardless. But since it could have an impact on the wild card race and because it is almost always a better day when Dallas loses, pull for the Saints.
Today’s schedule

Saturday Tweetbag: A more conservative RG3?
Penalties down, wins up
Days until: Cowboys vs. Redskins at FedEx Field 7; 1st round of NFL playoffs 13; divisional round of NFL playoffs 20

They just announced that Tyler Polumbus won't play and Maurice Hurt will play in his place. This is interesting. Did the doctors fail to clear Polumbus or do the Redskins just want to see what Hurt can do at tackle? I like the idea of Hurt playing .
