Here is what you need to know on this Monday, December 17, six days before the Redskins take on the Eagles in Philly.
Win and in
The Redskins have won five games in a row. If they can extend their streak to seven they will be NFC East champs and they will host a playoff game.
They also have wild card possibilities if that doesn’t work out. But the division title is the preferred route to the playoffs since that would mean that the Redskins would get their first home playoff game since 1999.
We will post on details a little later this morning after sorting out all of the tiebreakers other possibilities. But this is something that you need to know.
Dallas game to be flexed?
The Cowboys beat the Steelers yesterday afternoon and they joined a three-way tie atop the NFC East with the Redskins and Giants.
The last game of the season has the Cowboys visiting the Redskins on Dec. 30. That contest currently is scheduled for 1:00. But don’t make any plans for the evening on New Year’s Eve eve.
Even though there is no Sunday night game on the schedule for that date, there will be one. They don’t schedule one because they want to be able to shuffle the schedule according to the impact of the games being played. The games with the highest impact have the best chance of being flexed into the Sunday late after soon and the Sunday prime time slot.
And the Redskins-Cowboys game is likely to have the most at stake when it comes to playoff spots. The only other game that might be considered is Ravens-Bengals. But Baltimore has already wrapped up a playoff spot so that won’t be a game where the winner is in and the loser is out. That is a distinct possibility for Cowboys-Redskins.
Normally the Sunday night game is determined 12 days before the game is played. But on the last weekend they wait until the Week 16 games have been played (and next week’s slate will be over on Sunday, not Monday night game on Christmas Eve). So look for word on when Redskins-Cowboys will be played a week from today.
