@sugewhite 94: do the Skins clinch a playoff birth with a win Sunday and both Dallas & NY lose ?
No, the Redskins clinch a wild card spot if they win and the Giants, Bears, and Vikings all lose. It doesn’t matter what the Cowboys do; the Redskins can’t clinch the division this weekend.
@chrislamont17: do we see a more conservative @RGIII against the eagles?
All we really have to go on is the last time he came back after an injury. That was against the Vikings a week after he missed the fourth quarter of the Falcons game after sustaining a concussion. He had 13 carries for 138 yards and two touchdowns including the signature 76 yarder. So I will say maybe moderately more conservative but that doesn’t mean he’s not going to take off.
@JoeSchmos1: Why isn't Cooley more involved in the offense? Paulsen isn't really lighting it up.
Cooley did play about 20 snaps against the Browns, his heaviest workload since his first game back. But it has been weeks since he was the target of a pass. The coaches like Paulsen’s blocking and they like his consistency. They are now looking at any pass game production that comes out of the TE position as a bonus. The increased snaps for Cooley, however, might mean that they want to open it up a little more and get Cooley involved. We will see.
@Dusty_Canterbur: hearing of any possible free agent additions to the secondary in the offseason?
@MichaelStahl5: What do the Redskins prioritize this off-season? The Secondary? Or something else?
So, wait, the Redskins are in the middle of the playoff hunt and you guys come with offseason questions. Old late-December habits die hard, I guess? OK, just kidding. In any case, have to think that the secondary is the priority. The one name I’ve heard is safety Jairus Byrd of the Bills. 26 years old, 54 career starts, 18 interceptions. That was more of a “this guy would be a good fit” rather than any inside info, by the way. The Redskins are a ways off from having specific free agent targets. I’ll have plenty more about this and be much more up to speed when the offseason starts.
@Volsman22: What happens to R Jackson when Orakpo comes back?
Jackson is a free agent so he has to sign with the Redskins again first. If he does come back, he’s depth. He is big enough to play on the inside so maybe he becomes a utility linebacker. Or maybe he plays special teams, rotates in with some packages, and serves as depth. There is a lot of time to sort that out.
@don1964a: If the Redskins win division & have to play Seattle, how do they stop Russell Wilson? I could see him doing a RG3 impression
Russell Wilson has been pretty good this year but he’s no RG3. He can run some but he doesn’t have Griffin’s arm strength, accuracy or speed. Wilson has plenty of intangibles, too. But if you can keep him in the pocket he becomes very average.
@ballcoachj365: how long will cousins last as a redskin before he is traded
Unlike some fans and media members, Mike Shanahan is in no hurry to trade Cousins. He believes that you win a Super Bowl by collecting players like Cousins, not trading them away. Cousins certainly will be here in 2013, probably in 2014. His four-year rookie deal expires after 2015 so they will try to trade him before then.
@GO4ITUSA: Is Polumbus long term answer at RT?
I don’t know if he’s necessarily the long-term guy. But I do think that if you can’t get an immediate starter in the draft or in free agency and you want someone like Tom Compton to develop for another year he is a serviceable option for 2013.
