I get questions via Twitter all the time and sometimes it’s fun to give them answers that cover more than 140 characters. I collected a bunch of good questions the past couple of days so I’m going to answer them in two parts. If you don’t see your question here, look for it tomorrow.
@regskinner how's rehab for Neild, Rak, the rookie CB's & Carriker?
@Flybear2Greg Bernstine and Minnifield's Recoveries. Any word on the status?
I’m combining these two because the really have the same answer. Y/ou really don’t know much about a player’s rehab until conditioning and OTA’s start in the spring. I see Neild, Orakpo, Carriker and Fred Davis around the locker room every once in a while. They say they’re doing great but that doesn’t mean much at this point. The term “ready for full participation in OTA’s” is what we’re looking for and we won’t hear that until April.
@katie11074 besides secondary and right tackle, what will the Skins focus on in the off season?
Those are obviously the main areas. I also think they want to bolster their pass rush and not necessarily at linebacker. Reading the tea leaves from them putting in a failed claim on pass-rushing defensive end Jason Babin, they might be looking at installing a hybrid-type defense and signing a player who can get pressure from the defensive end position. Think post-Redskins Andre Carter, who had ten sacks in New England’s defense.
@Lifelongskinfan Do rushing TD's by a QB impact QB rating at all?
No, they do not. The NFL actually calls it passer rating because it is based strictly on passing. All you have to know to calculate passer rating is attempts, completions, yards, touchdowns, and interceptions. You take those numbers and either calculate the league’s complex formula or just plug them into an online calculator like this one.
@RCRedskins I think most feel that the pass-rush needs to step up...is that more a problem with personnel, scheme, or injuries?
Injuries are huge but even with Orakpo and Carriker last year, the pass rush was average at best. I see them trying different things with the scheme but none of them seem to work, at least not consistently. It comes down to personnel. Chris Wilson made the team on the basis of being able to get to the quarterback and he has half a sack. Jarvis Jenkins may blossom into an all-around 3-4 end who can provide pressure but he’s not there yet. Ryan Kerrigan can’t get it done by himself.
