Here is what you need to know on this Saturday, January 12, 239 days before the NFL’s 2013 kickoff Sunday.
Jacoby not among 15 Hall finalists
On Friday the Pro Football Hall of Fame announced its 15 modern-era finalists for the class of 2013. Former Redskins offensive tackle Joe Jacoby did not make the cut.
“We were a long shot,” Jacoby told David Elfin of WFAN. “At least we got to this point. I knew there were a lot of great first-year players being considered.”
This year was the first time that Jacoby make it to the semifinal stage since 2008. Elfin, a Hall of Fame voter, said that he believes that Jacoby will have a better shot at induction this year with just one player who seems to be a slam-dunk, Marvin Harrison, becoming eligible for the first time.
Two players who spent some time at the end of their careers with the Redskins, wide receiver Andre Reed (2000) and linebacker Dave Robinson (1973-74), are among the finalists.
NFLPA not pursuing RG3 knee investigation
Redskins fans don’t have to worry about their team taking another hit from the NFL.
The NFL Players Association has decided not to pursue a formal investigation into the Redskins’ handling of the knee injury suffered by Robert Griffin III during last Sunday’s playoff loss to the Seahawks. In a statement on a union-affiliated website, Executive Director DeMaurice Smith said, “playing through pain is a harsh reality of our business and our union will always hold the league and the clubs accountable to the best medical care. Our thoughts are with Robert as he recovers from his surgery and we hope he returns to full strength.”
A preliminary investigation was conducted but it was decided that there was no reason to turn it over to a joint union-league committee on player safety.
