Here is what you need to know on this Thursday, January 10, 241 days before the NFL’s 2013 kickoff Sunday.
Others rehabbing at Redskins Park
I dropped by Redskins Park yesterday to tape my weekly segment on Redskins Nation (that will continue through the offseason). It was right after the surgery on Robert Griffin III had been completed and the attention of everyone was on him and how well he might be able to come back from his injury and how long it might take.
When I pulled into the parking lot there were about a dozen cars in the players area. I saw Chris Neild, who has a brace on his knee after suffering a torn ACL five months ago, headed towards the practice bubble to get in some sprints. As I was leaving I said hello to Roy Helu Jr., as he was walking back from the bubble. Helu has been on injured reserve since Week 4 with a variety of leg and foot ailments.
It was a reminder that Griffin isn’t the only player who will be spending long and often lonely hours rehabbing an injury this offseason. Brian Orakpo was a frequent visitor to the locker room as he works how way back from a torn pectoral muscle for the second straight year. Fred Davis also dropped by on occasion as he faces rehab on his torn Achilles without a contract for the 2013 season.
Orakpo and Davis know that they will be playing somewhere in 2013. Rookie draft picks Jordan Bernstine (knee) and Keenan Robinson (pectoral) will have to fight to make the team after they rehab their injuries.
So while some of their teammates head home or are off to a vacation in warmer climates, players from RG3 to Orakpo to Robinson will be hard at work getting healthy for 2013.
RG3 debate reaches the highest levels
The debate over whether or not RG3 should have stayed in the game has found its way to the most famous address in the city—1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
Between discussing cabinet appoints and the debt ceiling, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney was asked about the RG3 situation. Although the top dog there had not weighed in with his opinion, Carney, a Redskins fan, had his own.
I can’t embed the video but here is the link to the exchange on YouTube.
In case you missed it
- Caps’ Dr. say 8-9 months for RG3
- Golston says hindsight is always 20-20
